Back Home again!
11-Nov-2008
....and just when you thought it was all over...... I am back! Back in the land of the long white cloud....beautiful but freezing cold! Back in the security of living in a country where I don't have to watch my back, front, sideways or anyways. Back to a place where I can walk outside after dark without fear. Back to meat and wine and chocolate and sweets - not necessarily a good thing! Back to washing machines, dish washers, safe transportation - definitely a good thing! Back to day to day living in NZ which means back to the realities of life.... and Visa bills!! haha
Yes, it was great to get back home and be with my sons again and with my family and friends again, and oh how I appreciate them all and appreciate living in NZ. It isn't till you go away to a place like Kenya that you realise how lucky you are. I certainly do now!
Two and a half weeks have passed and I am now missing all the darling children I left behind at the orphanage. I had a photo evening last Friday to show my work colleagues all my photos on the big screen and seeing all of their beautiful faces again really brought a lump to my throat. I know they will always hold a special place in my heart!
I have a couple more photo viewing evenings lined up, one with friends and another for my local community, so more lumps in throat to come! But it has been wonderful to be able to show everyone that their generous donations have put big smiles on the beautiful faces of the children.
I have been in contact with the two volunteers who are still at El Shaddai, Lex and Jayne. They informed me last week that the 200 chicks have arrived and are now being carefully reared by the orphanage. It was such good news to hear that this project has also now come to fruition. I know they will never forget Natalie's visit! I have attached a photo of the 'shade' area I had built for the washing up area, along with some of the children in front of it. I'm in there - pick the Mzungu!!
Thank you again one and all for all your support and generosity, it has been an amazing, life changing adventure which I will never forget!
